SO-CALLED SCANDALS.
TWO AFFAIRS IN AMERICA. INSULT TO A JEW. By Telegraph-—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 15, 10.20 pan. Washington, June 14. Two so-called scandals are causing a furore in Congress. Senators condemned the action of a graduation class at the National Academy at Annapolis in issuing a book commemorating the class, in which the last page, containing the biography of a graduate with second highest honors, of Jewish extraction, was perforated, so that the page could be torn out without damage to the book. A charge was made of racial and religious discrimination, and Senator Sutherland sent a protest to the President. Admiral Wilson, of the Academy, called the act a low-down, dirty trick. The Navy Department is investigating the matter. The second affair is the revelation that the Shipping Board vessels carry a full line of liquors and wines for consumption by passengers. Prohibition members of the House are deeply stirred, and a letter has been sent to President Harding asking for the abolition of the practice.—Aua.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
