OFFICIAL SUSPENDED.
THE SECRETARY OF MARINE. ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES. A WELL-KNOWN OFFICER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. It was learned by a Times representative to-day that Mr. R. Duncan, Secretary of the Marine Department, has been suspended pending certain investigations. Mr. W. R. Morris, Public Service Commissioner, on being approached, said that beyond a statement that the Secretary for Marine had been suspended and that an inquiry was being held regarding certain alleged irregularities in the department he had nothing to say on the matter. Mr. A. D. Park, inspector in the Public Service Commissioner’s office, has been placed temporarily in charge of the Marine Department. A sensation has been created by the news. Mr. Duncan was formerly in charge of the inspection of machinery department and on the retrenchment on superannuation of the late Mr. George Allport he was appointed secretary to the Marine Department in his stead.
