INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) June 14. The Catholic social and dance in the Town Hall on Tuesday was a complete success. For the euchre competition 21 tables were occupied, and had there been more accommodation several more would have : joined to compete for the prizes. The results are:—Ladies’ first prize, Miss McMahon; second, Miss Drosdowski; gentlemen's first, Mr. McLagan; second, Mr. E Nicholls. The floor for dancing, which was in first-rate condition, was fully occupied, and dancing to music supplied by Miss Curd’s orchestra, with Messrs. J. Duschenski and J. Wischnewski as M.C.’s, was kept merrily going till after midnight. Further evidence was given on Monday of the high' esteem in which the dairy cattle of the Inglewood district are held by dairymen in other parts of the Dominion by the transport from here to Napier of two trucks containing. 18 head of 2J to 3 year-old. heifers, mostly of Friesian strain, and purchased in this district by Mr. Tom Burgess, who has lately been spending a short holiday here. Mr. Burgess, who was born and spent his early years in the Moa Block before leaving for Napier, expressed the pleasure it had been while here to meet so many of his former friends and to find that the district generally was in so sound and prosperous a state. He is apparently well satisfied with the prospects for the farming community in the country surrounding his present home, where he is prepared to welcome any old Inglewood friends who may perchance travel in that direction. Mr. R. S. Darlow is to be congratulated on the success of the concert on Monday last, for which he was chiefly responsible. The programme was sufficiently varied to meet the approval of the audience.' A verse of the National Anthem was sung as a fitting preliminary to a concert in aid of funds for a Soldiers’ Memorial, after which the following programme was rendered:--Orchestral selection, by seven performers; song, Mr. W. J. Smith; song, Mrs. Faris; recitation,.'Mr. F. Partridge; song, Miss J. Bennett; pianoforte solo, Mrs. Jamieson; dance, Miss ’ Enid McAllunn; song, Mr. 8. R. Darlow. Then after a few minutes’ interval the second part was begun with another orchestral selection, followed by a song by Mr. W. J. Smith, dance by Miss Enid McAUum, song by Miss J. Bennett, recitation by Mr. Partridge, song by Mrs. Faris, pianoforte solo bv Mrs. Jamieson, song by Mr. S. R. Darlow. That all the items were appreciated was abundantly proyed by the encores, from which no performer escaped. It is good to be able to report a very satisfactory financial result in response to the hard work- of the promoters.
