JERSEY CATTLE.
A SALE AT URENUI. MR. S. J. SUTTON’S HERD. Ahother sale of Jersey cattle was held yesterday. The sale took place at the Urenui yards under the auspices of Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., when Mr. S. J. Sutton, Waitoitoi, offered for unreserved dispersal his "Yathonff" pedigree Jersey herd. There was a good attendance of buyers, including representatives from all over the North Island, and, as a result of the sale, a number of the herd will' go to outside buyers. The figures obtained are really pot a fair Indication of the prices at present ruling, being somewhat below, though considering the times, the prices realised for the cows and heifers was satisfactory. It is evident, however, that if high prices are to be realised, cattle not under a semi-official test stand a poor chance beside others thus favored. Unfortunately, Mr. Sutton has npt had the time to devote to this work, though there Is small doubt but that good results would have been obtained With the herd if tested. The bulls were hard to sell, although they were yarded in good condition and looked very well. Their failure to realise better prices was probably due in a great degree to the time of the season, October generally being regarded as the best time for sellers. Mr. Ken Kirk, assisted by Mr. C. Williams (of the Stratford brancn), •conducted the sale, and it is due to their efforts that such satisfactory prices were obtained under adverse circumstances. Details:— . COWJS.
