BOXING.
TOURNAMENT OPENS TO-NIGHT. The perliminary clashes and a professional contest between Len. McAsey (Lepperton) and Geo. Richardson (New Plymouth), in connection with the Taranaki Boxing Association’s tournament, will be staged to-night at the Coronation Hall, New Plymouth. All arrangements are now complete, and patrons are promised a good night’s sport. Cyril Whittaker (Wellington), who Is to fight Jack Heeney (Gisborne), in the professional contest on Saturday night, arrived by last night’s mail train. All contestants who have not yet received their tickets are asked to call for these at the office of the secretary (Mr. C. H. Wynyard) to-day. MATCH AT HASTINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. At the Hastings Municipal Theatre, to-night, a professional boxing match between Paul Hannah (Hastings) and Harry May (Auckland), for a purse of £lOO, was won by Hannah on points after a first-class exhibition. AUCKLAND TOURNAMENT. Auckland, June 14. The finals of the provincial boxing tournament were decided in the Town Hall last □ ight. The competitors included several from Whangarei and Taumarunui. C. Purdie, ban-tam-weight, Australasian champion, who has gone up to feather-weight, won the final after a very fine exhibition of scientific boxing against M. Hatton. M. Meale, Australasian unlddle-weight champion, had no difficulty in winning his division. Fly-weights: E. Halford beat W. Johnson. Bantams: K. Hewson beat H. Brown, of Frankton. Feathers : C. Purdie beat M. Hatton. Light-weights: A. Greig beat C. Haggie. Welter: F. Hansen beat B. Wade. Middle-weights: D. Meale beat G. Flynn. Cruiser-weight: A. James beat A. Snowden with a knock-out in the second round. Heavy-weights: J. O’Sullivan beat S. Lett with a knock-out in the second round. AUCKLAND TEAM. Auckland, June 14. The boxing team to represent Auckland province at the North Island championships at Palmerston North is: .Fly, C. Vernall; Bantam, K. Hewson; feather, C. Purdy; light, A. Gray; welter, F.
