TARANAKI IMPORTS.
DIRECT SHIPMENT SCHEME. As already announced in our shipping* column, arrangements have been made for a C. and D. liner to load in London, about the middle of September next, for direct shipment to New Plymouth, such goods as Taranaki importers, merchants and others order from Home for despatch by that vessel. The executive of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce is keenly alert} over this matter of direct shipment, which means much to the business people of the province, as well aa to the consumers. It is hoped that orders sent forward for goods will be of auch an extent as to justify a regular direct aervipe according to a timetable to be arranged. The benefit of previous direct shipments was due mainly to private enterprise. A feature of the new departure is the fact that the C. and D, take the risk of finding cargo, but if the progressive move ie to be a success it must have the co-operation of all the importers in the district. There is. ample time for them to take advantage of the September shipment and secure goods for the Christmas trade, but the , earlier their orders are sent the better .it will be, so that it is advisable no time is lost in listing requirementa.
