ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE WAIKIKI HAWAILANS. A BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT. A The large audience which attended the Empire Theatre last night in expectation of a unique entertainment was not disappointed, and showed its appreciation thereof in an unmistakable manner. Native songs and dances, the “kava making” aud the instrumental mnsio throughout the performance rendered it< quite out of the ordinary. Mr. Keoke Greig proved a host ini himself, and that Hawaiian music is nofi entirely unknown in New Plymouth waat proved by the request made to him to give certain compositions on the “steel guitar,” which were evidently favours ites with some of the audience. Ts»<i entertainment is, however, by no meon£ a “one man show.” Every member qS the company had full opportunity ofi showing their skill in song or dance, or music, and every one of them seemed .masters of their instruments, whether ukulele, mandoline, or guitar. Thd pretty rendering of a song in Maori waa particularly well received, and indeed the whole performance deserved the applause and support it received from the audience. The staging and lighting effects were admirable and created just the atmosphere required for the enters tainment.

The company is under the manager ment of Mr. Vai Atkinson with Mr. B. C. Rowe as touring manager. Thtfc performance will be repeated to-night,
