IMPORTS FOR AUSTRALIA. EMBARGO EXPIRING SHORTLY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 8, 7.40 p.m. Sydney, June 8. Though officially the embargo against German trade does not expire in Australia till August 1, with the departure of the Commonwealth steamer Port Curtis from Hamburg to-day trade between the two countries will be resumed after a lapse of eight years. The departure has been arranged so that the vessel will reach Australia shortly after the embargo lapses. It is reported other lines intend to enter the trade, and it is anticipated strong German competition will regain its pre-war foot-ing.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
