Johnson and Surrey lost to Smyth and Thomson, 5 and 3. Lovell and Pullen lost to Benner and Hutchings, 3 and 2. Kidd and Y’oung lost to McGill and Dalgleish, 4 and 3. Grant and Winfield lost to Andrews and Dempsey, 4 and 3. Simcock lost to Peerless, 4 and 2. Sutherland and Armstrong beat Alleman and partner, 8 and 5. Ladies’ Matches. Mrs. Saunders, lost to Airs. Nicholson, 5 and 3. Miss Hamerton and Miss Stanford, all square. Mrs. O’Carroll lost to Miss Thomson, 6 and 4. Mrs. Grant beat Miss Bremer, 8 and 7. Mrs. Birch Johnston, lost to Miss Simpson, 3 and 1. Mrs. Surrey lost to Mrs. Burke, 4 and 3. Mrs. Gow lost to Miss Read, 5 and 4. Miss Johnson lost to Mrs. Mac Diarmid, 3 and 2. Mrs. Brown beat Miss Home, 4 and 3. Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Perry, all square. Mrs. Kidd lost to Mrs. Hill, 3 and 2. Miss McAllum lost to Miss Shaw, 8 and 7. Kirkwood, with 144, led the. field at the end of the second qualifying round at Glen Eagles. Other scores are: Duncan 145, Taylor 148, Leach 149, Williamson, and Jolly 150, Anderson, Havers and McMinn 151, Hutchison and McNeill 152, Ray, Ockenden and Robertson 153, Mitchell, Compston, Renouf, Smith and Turner 154, Vardon 155. Braid failed to qualify. Duncan missed a two-foo* putt on the last green to equal Kirkwood. Compston, despite a seven at the first, had a 71. Vardon took eleven at the tenth, where he drove twice out of bounds from the tee.
