Some splendid golf was shown in the top match in the morning. The New Plymouth pair got the lead by means of a good 5 by Chong at the long fourth against the wind. This was increased when both Chong and Dutcher holed out in 2 at the seventh, and still further when Butcher rung on a 3 at the eleventh, and a two at the twelfth. The Hawera pair then took a hand in winning, with the result that the match was taken to the eighteenth green, where O’Callaghan just missed squaring by lipping the hole with a 10-foot putt. Quin played splendidly throughout the match, and was to be reckoned with at practically every’ hole. Chong and O'Callaghan had a. very close match in the afternoon, the game being all square at the twelfth. O’Callaghan then won three holes in succession. and eventually took the match by 3 up and 1 to play. In the second game, between J. Quin and Butcher, Quin, playing good golf, was 1 up at the turn, and came home In 37, but Butcher, who played the last 9 holes in 36 in unpleasant weather conditions, squared tho match on the eighteenth green. Many of the other games were well contested, but on the whole the New Plymouth men were too strong on their home course for the visitors. LADIES’ MEDAL MATCH.
