INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) June 2. ■ The men members of the Kaimata Sports Committee were so impressed with the realisation of the debt they owed to the lady members of the committee for the success of their annual meeting this year that, in graceful acknowledgment of that liability, they tendered them a complimentary social gathering on Tuesday, the 30th ultimo, at the Kaimata Hall. The result of their efforts was all that could be desired. The ladies were waited on by willing squires; nor were they permitted to do any of the necessary work, for the evening’s entertainment. It is well known that the Inglewood district is a large contributor to the number of first-grade Jersey cattle bred in New Zealand, but not so well known is the fact that there are in the same district upholders of the claims to first place of the Friesian (black and white) breed. They are here, however, and amongst them is Mr. C. W. Baldwin, of Dudley Road, who on May 22 forwarded by rail a cow and a two-year-old heifer (the latter of his own. breeding and rearing) to Mr. Donald, the well-known Friesian fancier, of Westmere, Wanganui. The heifer is still in milk, and, under official test, has up to the day of leaving here, yielded 210 lb of butter-fat in 150 days. Such animals help to uphold the honor of North Taranaki, and all lovers of success will wish Mr. Baldwin continued good fortune with his herd.
