A cable message from Madrid states that the ex-Empress Zita has given birth to a daughter.
The Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labor and Mines, will represent the Government at the opening of the winter show at New Plymouth next week. It is expected the Minister will arrive in New Plymouth on Tuesday night.
Mr. H. W. Fiddes, who was called to the English Bar at the Innter Temple and also was a member of the South African Bar. and who recently was with Messrs. Halliwell, Spratt and Thomson, solicitors, of Haw'era, has been admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand by His Honor Mr. Justice Reed, on the motion of Mr. L. Etheringtoq,
The following Justices of the Peace have been gazetted: Messrs. William George Marlow (Waitara); William Raison Wright (Rahotu) ; William John Wellington (Stratford); William Henry Skinner (New Plymouth); David Aitcheson Murray (Aotuhia, Whangamomona) ; James McLeod (New Plymouth); Walter Henry Haddrell (New Plymouth).
Mr. Marcus Marks retired on Wednesday from the position of Government Printer,- and was met by the printing office staff at a social function and presented with an illuminated address. The Minister in Charge of the Printing Office (the Hon. G. J. Anderson), in presenting the address, read a message from the Governor-General expressing appreciation of Mr. Marks’ services in connection with various public movements. The Minister eulogised the retiring official’s long and efficient service to the department. The new' printer. Mr. W. A. SkiiuHw. tooK. control yesterday.
