WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 30. Out of 25 applications, Mr. W. Hick has secured the position of toll-gate keeper at Waihi Mr. A. H. Hawkins severs his connection with the Bank of New Zealand today. after 44 years’ service. He joined at Christchurch, afterwards going to Central Otago, and from there came to Waitara three years ago. On Saturday morning Mr. Hawkins was called upon by his staff to receive a memento in the shape of a case of pipes. Mr. Dunbar referred to the goodfellowship that, always had existed, and hoped Mr. Hawkins would he spared long to enjoy a well-earned rest. Mr. Hawkins intends to reside in New Plymouth. Mr. J. Pvolleston, who is contesting the Waitomo electorate in the Reform Party's interests, is a visitor to this district and was introduced to a number of residents on Saturday. Mr. Rolleston is a returned soldier.
