THE ’BUS SERVICE.

SECOND VEHICLE AUTHORISED. AN IMPROVED DESIGN. A tender for the supply of a Walker omnibus chassis, complete with two Edison batteries, for the sum ol £2650 ■was accepted by the New Plymouth Borough Council at last night’s meeting on the recommendation of the finance committee/ The’ terms were c.i.f. and e., duty paid, New Plymouth, delivery to be in about sixteen weeks. A further resolution of the finance committee which was adopted stipulated that the cost be charged to the tramways account. At March 31 the cash available on the account was £1321. The total estimated cost of the ’bus. including ’bus and housing, was approximately £.3500, and the committee anticipated that the moneys available by March, 1923, would be more than sufficient to meet the extra liability. Their report stated further that arrangements had been made for designs of a ’bus body to be submitted to the council. With reference to the ' committee’s report, the Mayor said the ’bus would be a much better one than the present vehicle, as the makers had been studying the requirements of the traffic. With regard to meeting the liability, he thought the* council would have no difficulty in financing the purchase of the ’bus. Plans and estimates of the cost of a shed for housing the ’bus are to be submitted by the engineer.
