ANTI-COMPULSION.

MOVEMENT IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, May 27. Following the lead of Melbourne, a movement is being launched by Sydney business men to secure the cutting out of the compulsory clauses of the Federal and State Industrial Arbitration Acts. The promoters of the movement contend that before the existence of the compulsory Act masters and men occasionally had a rousing fight, but on the whole the industrial machine worked smoothly and efficiently. Since compulsory arbitration masters and men have been enemies all the time and an impassable barrier has been erected, making friendly intercourse and co-opera-tion impossible. The industrial machine has forgotten how to work smoothly and efficiently. The losses in wages have exceeded all records, the output of industry has diminished over 30 per cent, in the past five years, and unemployment has reached -terrifying dimensions. 'The economic edifice is threatened with collapse. Tire only way to overcome these evils and make Australia prosperous and happy is to wipe out the pernicious system of compulsory arbitration.
