Mr. Asquith, whom the Westminster Gazette asked to define the -meaning of his phrase “Britain should resolutely avoid entangling engagements,’ replied: “Anything in the nature of an alliance, a compact, or an understanding with a single Power or group of Powers which could bind us to military actions.” Mr. Asquits adds that all guarantees should be collective and should be made through the League of Nations.—Aus.-N..Z.
