SCOUT MOVEMENT.
REVIVAL AT WAIT AR A. TROOPS TO BE FORMED. A largely-attended public meeting was held at Waitara on Thursday night for the purpose of reviving the Boy Scout movement in Waitara. The following members of the association from New Plymouth were present: Major F. W. Sandford (Commissioner for Taranaki), the provincial secretary (Mr. H. J. Gray), assistant- secretary (Mr. D. R. Goldsworthy), the ehairman of the association (Mr. F. Trueman), Mr. C. Roebuck. the district scoutmaster AV. T. Scott, Scoutmasters B. Blackha.il and R. Hopkins. The Mayor presided, and, after explaining the objects of the meeting, spoke of the great advantages of the Scout movement in regard to the training of boys. The commissioner, in asking the people to support the movement, explained fully the procedure in regard to the formation of a scout committee. He reviewed the work of the scouts, dealing with the various branches of work, and mentioned the Sea Scouts, remarking that a patrol of these might also be formed in Waitara. Mr. Kedgley thanked the commissioner for his explanation, and the meeting afterwards set up the following committee to take charge of the Scout movement: The Rev. Gavin (chairman), Mr. Kedgley (secretary), the Rev. Avery, Messrs. McKenzie, Huse. Nosworthy, Ford, Swinborne, and Haking and Mr. and Mrs. Windsor. It is expected that three patrols, totalling twenty-two boys, will start operations, under the direction of Mr. ■McKenzie as scoutmaster. He will be assisted from time to time by the New Plymouth scoutmasters.
