EMPIRE DAY.
CELEBRATION IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received May 24, 11.15 p.m. Sydney, May 24. Although not a public holiday, Empire Day was celebrated to-day in showery weather with unprecedented enthusiasm since the war. Many meetings were organised by various institutions, and a monster demonstration was held in Martin Place at the luncheon hour. Shipping and all the principal buildings were decorated with flags and bunting. Received May 24, 11.15 p.m. Melbourne, May 24. Empire Day was celebrated throughout Victoria to-day. At all the State schools in the metropolitan area the flag was saluted by children and patriotic addresses delivered.
