KILLED BY IMT.rjXG TREE, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarunui, May 24. John Carmichael, a married man with two children, was killed by the branch of a falling tree at Taringamutu yesterday. VICTIM OF GUNPOWDER EXPLOSION. Dargaville, May 24. A young man named Eric Smith, 18 years of age, died in hospital yesterday as the result of an explosion of gunpowder at Mangatn on Sunday. Deceased was employed by a contractor in the district and was testing gunpowder when a cask containing sOlb. exploded, inflicting terrible injuries to his face,, hands, and legs. The man was alone in camp at the time of the accident and crawled about a mile, when he was found by his mates who, with the assistance of the neighbours, conveyed him over rough roads to Kaihu, wuere medical assistance was obtained. He was removed to hospital, where he was reported to be progressing favourably. The shock, however, was too great.
