MAKING BAD CITIZENS.
POISONOUS PROPAGANDA. SOCIALIST SUNDAY-SCHOOLS. Sydney, May 10. The people of New South Wales have been considerably startled through their attention being drawn by the Minister for Justice of the • new Government to the poisonous propaganda being disseminated among children by means of Socialistic Sunday-schools. The disloyal and seditious nature of the teaching is evidenced in the Sundayschool text-books, of which the following extract is typical:— Teacher: Can a boy Socialist be a Boy Scout ? Scholar: No, comrade. . Teacher : Why cannot a, boy Socialist be a Boy Scout? Scholar: Because a Boy Soout has to salute the Union Jack. Teacher: Why must not a boy Socialist salute the Union Jack? Scholar: Because the Union Jack is an emblem of oppression and slavery. The teaching does not aim merely at the Empire, but seeks to make Godless citizens, according to the following extracts from the catechism Question: Is it true that God has ever been revealed? Answer: As there is no God He could not reveal Himself. One of the ten commandments taught in the Sunday-schools is: Thou shalt not be a patriot, for a patriot is an international blackleg. The hymns sung in the Sunday-schools are along the same lines. The Minister has ascertained that these Sunday-schools are in existence in Sydney and some of its suburbs, on the Maitland coalfields, at Broken Hill and elsewhere. He is having further investigations made with a view to the introduction of legislation to enable the police to deal with the matter.
