WAEHI MINERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, May 23. The Arbitration Court refused to grant the application of the Waihi mining companies for a greater reduction in the rates of remuneration of workers, principally because the negotiations for a neW industrial agreement were in progress. It urged on the parties the advis* ability of promptly renewing the sua* pended negotiations, suggesting a short? dated agreement, or for a longer term* subject to periodical revision in accords anca with some basis agreed upon. THE LIVING WAGE. Dunedin, May 23. s The Otago Storemen’s Union passed sb resolution protesting against the manner in which the recent 5s reduction had been arrived at, in that the living wage must first be defined. Until this step was taken the Court had no foundation on which to base an increase or reduetion. They contended that it did nofc follow that the ruling wage was a living wage.
