NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. SATURDAY'S PLAY. A Bogey Handicap was played on the Watwakalho links on Saturday, in beautiful weather, a record entry of 46 players taking part. Several good cards were returned by hte seniors, but the junior results were not as good as might be expected on such a fine day. The best cards handed in were SENIORS. V. Elliott, handicap 8; 3 up. In the final of tbe ladles' golf championship, Miss We the red beat Miss Leitch by 9 up and 7 to play. Received May 20, 5.5 p.m. London, May 19. I' There was a sensational conclusion to the I, ladies' golf championship at Sandwich, due , to Miss Leitch’s collapse in the second 1 round. The match attracted very keen in- 1 terest, and the gallery numbered two thou- ' sand. The championship never produced ( better golf or a keener, ding-dong fight thata 1 the first round, after which Wethered was 1 up. Both had 84. In the second round the excitement was intense. The movements of the crowd repeatedly troubled Miss Leitch, and the referee liad to reprove the spectators. The first hole of the second round was halved in fives. Miss Wethered won the second through Miss Leitch slicing with her brassey. Miss Wethered won the third, after both had visited bunkers, by means of a Six-yard putt. Thereafter Miss Leitch never reached good form and lost every hole to the turn, except the sixth, which she won. Miss Leitch lost the tenth on the green, leaving her dormy 8 down. Except at the sixth. Miss Wethered played very steadily and excellently tlu-oughout. SCOTLAND BEAT ENGLAND. Received May 21, 5.5 p.m. London, May 20. In the amateur International golf match, resumed at Prestwick after a lapse of a decade, Scotland defeated England by three foursomes and seven Singles to one foursome and three singles. Hunter, the amateur champion, headed the Scottish team, and beat. Tolley, 2 up and 1. Wethered beat Jenkins (Scotland) 3 up and 2.
