SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
GOOD STANDARD REACHED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. At the Secondary Schools’ Association Conference a protest was made against a statement by responsible persons comparing the standard of secondary education reached by pupils in New Zealand and England. Mr. T. R. Cresswell moved, and Mr. F. Martyn Renner seconded, a motion affirming that such a comparison was futile, owing to the radical difference of conditions, especially to the much earlier age of the English secondary course. Such New Zealand students as proceed Home, and a mass of other evidence, had proved, in the opinion of the conference, that under the circumstances the standard of work done in New Zealand schools compared favorably with England and elsewhere. The motion was carried unanimously.
