KAKAHI SUFFERS BADLY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarunui, May 18. A disastrous fire broke out early this morning at Kakaki. The fire started in E. O’Malley s boarding-house, owned by Miss Harrod, of Auckland. It next caught Endre’s general store, then spread to the publis hall. After the fire had a substantial hold on the hall, a small, empty shop owned by H. Fraser was knocked to pieces by the residents, and this provided a gap over which the fire could not leap to Everybody’s Theatre, and a shop belonging to Fraser. These were the only buildings left standing in the main street. Kakahi residents worked strenuously with buckets to suppress the conflagration.
