A TEA DANCE.
AN ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. A novel function in the round of amusement in New Plymouth took place in the Workers’ Social Hall yesterday afternoon, when a tea dance was held in aid of the funds of the ladies’ Taranaki golf tournament. There was a large attendance, and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was spent, while the enthusiasm of the dancers lead to the function being extended into a jolly little dance at'night. The hall was beautifully decorated in autumn tints and greenery, and the scene was a very pretty one. The centre of the hall was reserved for dancing, while at the sides were placed the tea-tables. The floor was well filled by dancers, for whom the latest foxtrot music was provided by Mrs George’s orchestra, while the gallery was filled with interested spectators. During the afternoon Miss Take i and Mr Wynn Kirkby gave an exhibition of the latest ballroom dancing, which was much enjoyed. Miss Boyle sang and Mrs. H. Fraser played, while an extra was played by Miss Home. The total takings amounted to about £25. The arrangements for the afternoon tea were in charge of Mrs. Johns, and tea was served'by the Misses May Harrison, Marjorie Hutchen, Mary Robertson. Phyllis Grey, Avis Greig, Peggy Griffiths, Barbara Humphreys, Effra Baily, Claudia Weston, and Kathleen Walker. The committee, which is to be congratulated on introducing a benefit social function, comprised: Mesdames F. S. Johns, E. A. Walker, C. H. Weston, Walter Westen, Barthorpe, Milroy, J. C. Nicholson. R. H. Quilliam, T. P. Anderson H. B. Gray, and R. H. Chaney, the Misses Simpson, Brewer, T. Thompson, Gi’eig, Home, and O. Shaw«
