PERSONAL.
Mr. D. H. Guthrie, who has been Act-ing-Minister of Railways for a year, has been appointed Minister. Lord Curzon, the British Foreign Secretary, is seriously ill (says a cable from London).
A London message reports 4 the appointment of Mr. Mark Lemon Rorner as Judge of the High Court vice Mr. Justice Peterson, deceased. The Rev. Mr. Warner, of New Zealand, has been elected vice-president of the Australasian Congregational Union. A cable from London says Sir Francis Bell has proceeded to Genoa at the invitation of Mr. Lloyd George to represent New Zealand during the last days of the conference. Sir James Allen is participating at the League of Nations financial conference at Geneva.
Mr. W. H. Skinner, of New Plymouth, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. Skinner has succeeded. Mr. Percy Smith as chairman of the Polynesian Society, and his visit is in. connection with tho interests of that society. The Rev. R. J. Stanton (vicar of Inglewood), who for several weeks has been suffering with rheumatic fever, is making slow progress towards recovery. Jn the meantime the Rev. E. H. Strong, M.A., who is not a stranger to Taranaki, will act as locum tenem.
Official information has been received that Mr. A. J. Ching, clerk of the Court at Stratford, has been appointed clerk at the Hawera Court, vice Mr. W. H. Freeman, who has resigned from the service. No notice has yet been deceived as to the appointment of a successor to Mr. Ching at Stratford.
