WANGANUI MEETING./ FIRST DAY'S RESULTS, KHARTOUM WINS STEEPLECHASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meeting commenced to-day in showery weather and tire going was holding. The totallsator handled £27,326, against £42,009 on the first day last year. Results:— BOROUGH HANDICAP.—KInsem (M. McCarten) 1, Rational 2, Orchid 3. Also started: Hipo, Blackmail. Miss Gold, Weldone, Red Bob, Kilreld, Birkie, Demos, La Paloona, Comic. Won by two lengths, two and a half lengths between second and third. Time, imin. 15 3-ssec. Blackmail and Comic fell, Dixon and Garrett (the jockeys) breaking their collarbones. .HACK STEEPLECHASE.—Oak Rose (P. McGuire) 1, Ngakanui 2, Master Boris 3. Also started: Te Maire, Hyttus, The Baronet, Dumper. Won by two and a half lengths, a length and a half between second and third. Time, 4<min. 4 2-ssec. Dumper lost ita rider WANGANUI STEEPLECHASE. Khartoum (E. Copestake) 1, Omahu 2, Kohu 3. Also started: Coalition, Sturdee, First Line, Maniahera. Sir Solo, War Loan. Khartoum beat Kohu and Omahu over the last fence and won by three and a half lengths, Omahu beating Kohu by a neck for second place. Time, 6min. 4sec. Sir Solo and Maniatera fell. . KAITOKE HACK HURDLES.—Whizz Bang (MS D. Young) 1, Simonides 2, Voluble 3. Also started: Wamba, Vagabond, Ladogeur, Ruutara, Matatua, Ethiopian, Guianform, Noble. Won by two lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time, 3min. 21 3-5 sec. CENTURY HURDLES.—PoanuI (M. D. O’Shea) 1, Spook 2, Alteration 3. Alsostarted : Explorer, Gladful, Gamecock, Whanoko, Kyoto. Poanul went to the front at the half-mile and beat Spook by four lengths. Alteration was two lengths away. Time, 4min. 21 3-ssec. Kyoto fell.
CONNOLLY HANDlCAP.—Printemps (L. G. Butler) 1, Marqueteur 2, Banetter 3. Also started: Tame Fox, Punka, Correspondent, Mangaunahoe, Scion, Sunny Corner, Cleasanta. Stork, Erie. Won by a short head, two lengths between second and third. Time, 2min. 14 2-ssec. PURUA HACK HANDICAP.—Mort Avis (H. Goldfinch) 1, Merry Queen 2, Gold Star 3. Also started: Crossfire, Left, AH Cerise, Marble Crag, Lady Nassau, Blrkenella, Martulla, Te Kuri, Skylight, Molleen Oge, Yankee Dan, Manchester, Fiddlestrings. Sweet Song, Santiago, Merry Ann, Patrogun. Won by three-quarters of a length, three-quarters of a length between second and third. Time, Imin. 54 3-ssec. NEW BRIGHTON TROTS POSTPONED.
