At the sale of the Baroness BurdettCoutts’ library the famous Daniel first folio Shakeepeare, originally bought by the baroness for £916, brought £8,600. Another first folio, bought 150 years ago for 4 guineas, was sold for £5,400. Dr. Rosenbach, an American dealer, purchased both. REMOVED FROM THE ARMY. Received May 17, 5.5 p.m. London, May 16. The Gazette announces that Captain Peel, M.C., Fifth Dragoon Guards, who was sentenced to imprisonment in connection with betting frauds, has been removed from the army owing to a civil conviction. THE ARMSTRONG CASE. Received May 17, 9.30 p.m. London, May 16. The Chief Justice, outlining the Appeal Court’s reasons for dismissing Armstrong’s appeal, said the evidence was amply sufficient to justify the jury’s verdict, without anything relating to Martin being considered.
