TENNIS AT URUTI.
SUNDAY PLAY DENIED. Messrs. C. C. Butt (chairman of the Uruti Tennis Club) and R. S. Johnson (secretary) forward the following letter: “Referring to the letter in the Daily News of Friday, the 12th instant, under the heading, “Tennis on Sunday: Charge Against Uruti Club”, wherein “An Out; sider”, writing from Urenui, accuses our club of most flagrantly breaking an understanding with the Uruti Hall Committee on Sunday, April 23, in playing off the final for the men’s silver cup. We shall be obliged if you will be good enough to publish in your columns this emphatic denial of such allegations. Firstly, we have a rule in the club forbidding Sunday playing during church hours. Secondly, the final mentioned was played off on Monday, April 17, on our court, on our own freehold ground, and not on Sunday, April 23, nor on the court on ground leased from the hall committee.”
