“THE CHEER GERM.”
COMMUNITY SINGING. Community singing, popularly known as “the cheer germ,” has spread to New Plymouth, being introduced at the Empire Theatre yesterday, at the lunchhour. by the Digger company of entertainers. Tijp theatre was packed, and the audience entered wholeheartedly into the scheme. The happy band was led by Mr. Fama, under whose influence the “cheer germ” quickly infected the wingers. One popular song was that commencing “Sing, and let us hurry to get rid of our worry,” sung to the wellknown tune of “Keep the Home Fires Burning.” Other songs sung were “Land of Hope and Glory.” “The Great Red JMwn? “Peggy O’Neil,” and numerous other popular airs, the words of whk* had been printed on a song-sheet. Those who had no pretensions to singing were invited to whistle. “Away, dull care, was the keynote of the whole proceedings, which passed off most successfully, community “sing-song” will be repeated to-day at the Empire Theatre, between the hours of 12.30 and I- . another enjoyable hour is expected.
