TECHNICAL SCHOOLS.

CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS. A By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 16. The annual conference of representatives of the New Zealand Technical School Teachers’ Association opened today. Mr. R. J. Thompson, president, occupied the chair. Many districts were represented. In the presidential report, Mr. Thompson said that if we fail now to pay the premium demanded by a good and general educational system, we shall surely reap a harvest of hate, corruption, confusion, and downfall. The annual report stated that there were at present approximately 170 members, as compared with 73 in 191©. Regret was expressed that no headway appeared to have been made towards the removal of disabilities in regard to grading, under which the technical teachers still laboured. Attention was drawn to the fact that technical school teachers had no representation on the Council of Education.
