CHURCH UNION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, May 13. The Congregational Conference adopted the basis of doctrine drawn up by the Presbyterian joint committee on Church Union. The report states the voting resulted in 9936 being in favor and 1524 against throughout the Commonwealth, representing 60 per cent, of the membership and 80 to 85 per cent, of the effective membership. A resolution was passqd authorising the executive to take the necessary steps, in conjunction with the other 'churches, for the consummation of the union, recommending the State unions to foster the spirit of union by promoting co-operation with the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches as the precursor of a more comprehensive movement.

The agents have not decided to send a steamer to search, as they have received no instructions. SHIRES ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE. Sydney, May 13. The Shires Association Conference decided to ask the Federal Government to prohibit the importation of wax matches and permit tht entry only of those strikable upon a preparation attached to the container. It is stated that many fires, resulting in great damage, have been caused in the country through the use of wax matches. It was also decided to see'< to secure a proclamation that bees are a nuisance in urban areas. ANTI-LABOR PARTIES. Brisbane, May 13. A conference of the National and Country Parties reached an agreement to co-operate at the elections against the Laborites, the electorates to be allotted to National or Country candidates by mutual arrangement.
