COLLISION IN HARBOR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A collision occurred at 6.15 p.m. on Saturday in the harbor between the Gisborne Sheep-farmers’ steamer Tiroa and the ferry steamer Peregrine. The Tiroa was outward bound to Gisborne and put back to the wharf with her stem broken, but she was not making water. The Peregrine’s starboard belting was damaged, but she continued running.
CHARGE AGAINST A CLERGYMAN. Dunedin, May 13. Edward Andrew Axelson, on four charges of indecent assault, was further remanded to Friday next, when, it was announced, the cases will be proceeded with. SUNDAY PICTURE SHOWS. Greymouth, May 13. Thomas Pollard and Arthur Beban, convicted by Mr. Meldrum, S.M., for opening picture shows on Sunday, were ordered to pay the costs. PRICES DECLINING. Auckland, May 13. Grocers will reduce the price of sugar to 4Jd retail for cash on Monday. There is a small reduction in the > price of coal, and motor traders announce that they will reduce labor , charges in consequence of the reduced wages bonus. PRESSMEN’S LOWER WAGES. Auckland, May 12. The secretary' of the Newspaper Pronriotors’ Association has advised members that in order to give effect to the I reduction of wages authorised by the Court’s general order, it is necessary i to give each employee on weekly wages a week’s notice of the intention to reduce wages.
