OFFICIALS DISMISSED.
PUBLIC MEETING OF PROTEST. By Telegraph.—Pre** A**oei*tien. 4 Napier, Last Night; A largely-attended public meeting OB| Saturday, called with the object of protesting against the Borough Council’s de* cision to dispense with the service* the manager of the tramways and the electrical engineer and six other employees in the tramways and electric lighting department, had a somewhat negative result. After the difficulty of procuring a chairman for the meeting had been overcome, an irregular discussioa preceded the moving of a motion, sugn gesting that the council be requested, to reconsider its decision relating to the two heads of the department, pending investigation by a competent electrical engineer and an accountant. An amendment was then moved suggesting that the meeting take no consideration
of salaried employees while wage-earn-ers are not being considered. The amendment was declared carried, and tba meeting terminated without any further proposals being made.
