A compora* tively small sum has been spent on harbor works during last year, yet, iby gently guiding the natural current ol the tides, and stopping the sand drifts a marked improvement has been wrought. It was reported at the annual meet* ing of the board that the entrance now shows the greatest depth of water yeo recorded—24 ft. 3 in. at high water spring tides, and 121 ft. 3 in. at high water neaps. Tl|e depth has been increasing month by month since the new methods were adopted, and Mr. A. G. Bjgnelln who was re-elected chairman for another term, expressed a confident belief that liners would be berthed at Castlacliff ig the near future.

The depth of water in the river ch*UM nel to the town wharf has also bee< much improved now, the shallowest pan tion being 14 ft.
