Major F. W. Sandford, who has beeri Scout Commissioner for Taranaki tor some years past, is paying his last official visit to the various troops in New Plymouth. It is his intention to resign his position as commissioner, as he will be residing in Christchurch in future.
A Melbourne cablegram f*ys that ifi is stated Mr. W. M. Hughes has officially informed the National Party supporters ■ at Bendigo that he is again contest'ng the Bendigo seat at the next elections.
In the absence of Mr. W. Brod.e on holiday leave, Mr. C. A. Cuff, subinspector, is acting as relieving manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand.
A private telegram has been received in Eltham intimating that Mrs. Dent, wife of the Rev. Geo. W. Dent, died yesterday morning. The Rev. Dent was for a long time Anglican vicar in Eltham, and is at present stationed at Greytown. The death occurred at the Taihape Hospital on Thursday of Mr. George McGlashan, who for several years past has been general manager of the Egmont Box Company’s milling operations in the Ohutu district.
The late Mr. J. Henderson, whose death was reported from Wellington on Thursday, was well-known all over the Taranaki district, he having represented the firm of E. W. Mills and Co. in this • province for the pest five years. He had been with the same firm for about 25 years, having commenced with them as a boy, and came to Taranaki from the West Coast district. He was most popular and highly respected by all who knew him, and his death will be greatly regretted by a wide circle of friends, both in New Plymouth and other districts. Mr. Henderson was keenly interested in music and was a member of the committee of the New Plymouth Choral Society. Sincere sympathy will be felt for his widow and four young children in the severe loss they have sustained.
