THE RABBIT PEST.

HAS IT REACHED TARANAKI? From time to time there are rumours of rabbits having been seen in North Taranaki. Last week a settler informed the Daily News that a rabbit had been shot near the Gnaero Dairy Factory. On enquiry- from the local Inspector of Stock (Mr. F. W. Sutton), it was found that the rumour was correct, a fullgrown mala rabbit being shot on the banks of the Gnaero river last week. Very careful enquiry has been made bv the department, but no traces of other rabbits can be found in the locality, nor has their presence been reported by any settler. Should any settler see any traces of rabbits, he ehou ,d immediately communicate with the department, who will take prompt action.
