At the Supreme Court Thomas Fearon (25), whose appeal against conviction for theft from the person and receiving was dismissed by the Appeal Court, was sentenced • to eighteen months* hard labor. Robertson, ex-manager at Ruatorea, for the Tuparoa Trading Co., pleaded guilty to having fraudulently omitted to make entries. It was stated in evidence that accused collected <-€4BO not recorded in. the company’s books. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. ACQUITTED OF MANSLAUGHTER. Christchurch, May 10’. In the Supreme Court Thaddeus Doody appeared on a charge of manslaughter. Evidence showed that Doody and Cornelius O’Neil started to fight in the street at Rangiora. John O’Neil, a brother, interfered and was pushed down by accused and fell on the pavement, fracturing his skull and dying the following day. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
