CORRESPONDENCE.

SOCIAL EVILS. (To the Editor.) Sir,—The reverend gentlemen who attended the Anglican Synod, just concluded in Auckland, “struck oil” when they drew attention to the necessity of constantly remembering that the human body is meant to be the Living Temple of the Holy Spirit. This is an Apostolic note of the first importance. Sanctity of soul and purity of body are inseparable. Self-reverence is a virtue which should be cultivated from infancy on through life. Not only is such teaching necessary for the unmarried, but also equally necessary In the holy state of wedlock. It would strike at the root of two plague spots in modern society, cancers that are eating into the vitals of modern society, and a menace to every civilised country in the world. A crusade of prayer would go some way towards stemming the torrents of these evils, but other means also must not be neglected. It is to be hoped that Bishop Sedgwick’s motion, which was carried unanimously at the meeting, will bear abundant fruit and lead to a discussion in the public Press, which will rouse the public conscience from its apathy and indifference on these grave subjects.—l am, etc., DEMOCRAT. New Plymouth, May 10.
