CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. (From Our Own. Correspondent.) A general meeting of the Kaponga and District Chamber of Commerce was held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday, 9th inst. Messrs. Lowick and Cran were elected members. The chairman (Mr. P. H. Allen) explained that the meeting had been called to consider further the mooted change in the Kaponga-Eltham mail service. This matter has been the* subject of some three or four meetings. A letter has already been sent to the Chief Postmaster, protesting against the proposed alteration. Speakers were unanimous in the opinion that the cutting out of the early morning mail'to New Plymouth would be a backward step. Mr. Fearon moved: “That this meeting of the Kaponga and District Chamber of Commerce lodges its emphatic protest against any change in the present mail service.” This was carried. Mr. Fearon tendered his resignation as a member of the executive. In doing so he explained that he had so many calls on his time that he felt he was unable to do justice to the executive. The chairman expressed his regret at losing Mr. Fearon’s services. He had been a strong member. and had done much useful work for the chamber. He moved that a vote of thanks and appreciation be accorded Mr. Fearon for his valued help.—Carried. It was decided to write to Mr. Flanagan, Valuer-General, asking for a sitting in Kaponga if sufficient request for his negotiations were forthcoming. At a subsequent meeting of the executive it was decided to write to the Railway Department, asking that tTie down train from New Plymouth in the evening be made to cross the mail at Eltham, instead of at Stratford, as at present.
