Patriarch Tikhon appeared in tfrd witness box (in black silk vestments and wearing an ikon. As he entered all ta Court rose to receive his benediction. The president of the Court addressed him as Citizen Vassily and asked who was subordinate to him. Patriarch Tikhon replied: “The faithful of afl Russia.” Tikhon continued: “The property of the Church has been stolen not from me, but from God.” The president asked who had done it, and Tikhon replied: “You know that the Soviet Government has done it.” As a result <rf this evidence Tikhon was included in the indictment.—Aus.-N.Z.
