CHRISTIAN LIFE TO-DAY.
ATTACK BY THE CHURCH, WORLDLINESS CONDEMNEDBy Telegraph.—Press Aasn.—Copyright. Sydney, May IL The triennial assembly of the Con* gregational cjnion of Australia and Neir Zealand has opened. The New inland delegates have not arrived. The Rev. Mr. Davies, in his preaiden*' tial address, dealt with the realities of Christian life, and declared that the world made no serious effort to follow Christ, because the Church did not t-epeh His way or life. The world would always and everywhere believe in the reality of self-sacrifice and brotherly • lore. It was utterly useless to speak of th—e things and to follow the pagan principles of self-assertion and selflohneas in private. Business and social nnLf nonki ing, as a common practice, shouted 4d004 a denial of Christ. Received May 11, 7.30 pan. “ Sydney, May IT. Mr. Davies, in the course Of hit dress at the Congregational was outspoken in his condexxmatkm of worldliness. He declared that in tha Kingdom of God man had no more right to spend the most of his life collecting wealth than a savage had in collecting scalps. If, to-day, the mask were removed from Mammon in the worM, it would be found obvious and ugly. We have tried to love God while we exploit or hate men, and, as a result, do not love God, and God has small, if any, pleee in our human affairs. Wc do not cnaXkngM the world to live in Christ’s way. Wit deny His rule in dally life, and talk brotherhood, but practice self-rntcmri. To talk of love, and practice competition in Christ in the flesh, is our one and only test of reality. The acceptance of the four Gospels in a Christian way wooid demonstrate real Christianity, and we all know it would produce a new clrareh and a new social order. It would save us from trying, to serve both God. and Mammon. —Aus.-NtZ. Gable Assn«
