PROHIBITION LEAGUE.
TARANAKI CONVENTION. The provincial convention of the Taranaki Prohibition League was held at the Whiteley Hall, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon. The president (Mr. C. E. Bellringer) presided over an attendance of about 100 delegates. After Welcoming the visitors the election of officers was proceeded with, this resulting: President: Mr. C. E. Bellringer; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. E. Vaughan (Waitomo), F. C. Spratt (Patea), W. Clement (Egmont), A. Sangster (Stratford), and A. B. Gibson (Taranaki); treasurer, Mr. G. H. Maunder; secretary, Mr. L. M. Moss; executive, Revs. A. Liversedge and E. H. Kedgley, Messrs. T. A. Bridge, C. D. Sole, W. Ambury, T. P. Hughson and Major Urquhart. Interesting addresses were given by Mrs. O. Blundell on “Our Young Women”; by the Rev. John Dawson on “Our Programme of Work in New land ; and by Mr. Ormond Burton on “Our Work with’the Young Men.” All the addresses were discussed and questions asked and answered. Five minute addresses by representatives of the Patea, Egmont, Stratford, Waitomo, Taranaki electorates followed, after which general business was tyken. Afterwards a large gathering of those interested in the work of the league were the guests of the president at tea in the Whiteley Hall, during which a very telling appeal for help by the young people in the coming campaign was made by Mr. O. E. Burton.
