SIR FRANCIS BELL.
NOT GOING TO GENOA. OBJECT OF HIS VISIT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—-Copyright. Received May 9, 9.50 p.m. London, May 8. The mystery of New Zealand’s nonrepresentation at Genoa deepens. Sir James Alien’s statement on March 14 was fpllewed by an announcement that Sir Francis Beil would act, but on arrival to-day, Sir Francis Bell stated "he considered that in the present circumstances it was neither necessary nor desirable that he should attend. He declined to make a statement on the general question of Australasian representation at such a conference, but said he could announce he would not attend, unless the present conference adjourns and is subsequently reconstituted at a later date. The real object of the AttorneyGeneral’s visit appears to be to meet a request by the Colonial Office for consultation with a New Zealand law officer on several undisclosed matters. Sir Francis Bell subsequently visits Norway. —United Service.
