Five hundred engineers marched to Firth’s Works at Sheffield and forcibly prevented a hundred men from accepting the employers’ terms. Firth’s issued a statement that both the men and their families had been threatened, and therefore they did not advise the men to remain at work. PALESTINE FOR THE JEWS. Received May 4, 9.45 p.m. Washington, May 3. The Senate passed unanimously a resolution moved by Senator Lodge favoring the establishment of Palestine as a national home for Jews. A CHINESE QUESTION. Received May 4, 9.45 p.m. Washington, May 4. Following upon advices from Pekin that the disturbed conditions in China make it inadvisable to hold an investigation into the extra-territoriality question, as decided by the Armament Conference, the State Department has announced that the Powers have agreed to postponement until next year.
