PARACHUTES FOR AIRMEN.
NOT ALWAYS OF USE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 4, 9.45 p.m. London, May 3. Captain A. H. Guest (Air Minister), in the House of Commons, replying to a question, said Sir Ross Smith was not wearing any kind of parachute when his machine crashed. Parachutes were only valuable when an accident occurred at sufficient altitude to give time for the occupants to extricate themsdlves and jump clear of the machine. In Sir Ross Smith’s case everything happened so quickly that escape in a parachute was im-possible.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
