At the request of the American Embassy detectives arrested John Prescott, of Melbourne, and Arthur Ernest Cox, a Londoner, commission agents, who left New York with a hundred thousand dollars. The men came to America in 1921 in company with Eric Skogstadt, a Norwegian bank president, on board the Aquitania, after a casual acquaintance picked up in a London bar. The three travelled to Troy, New York State, where a horse-racing betting swindle resulted in Skogstadt’s loss of a hundred thousand dollars. Cox and Prescott disappeared.
