DAIRYING SEASON.
GREAT PROGRESS IN AUCKLAND. Palmerston N., May 2. Mr. Singleton, director of the Dairy Division, who was in Palmerston North to-day after visiting the north, -says that North Auckland ?ias had a remarkably good season from the standpoint of butter-fats produced. The production of the district is likely to further increase as the swamp areas are drained and brought into profit. The same remarks apply to a number of districts in South Auckland. The whole province appears destined to carry more dairy cows than at present. A The increase in the production of W dairy produce not only pertained to “ the northern province, but has been the experience generally in the dairy i districts of the Dominion. Many dairy » factories have had the capacity of their machinery and plant taxed to the uttermost. In some instances the quality suffered somewhat as a result, but, speaking generally, the quality of both butter and cheese has been well maintained throughout the season. It was moat -fortunate for New land dairy farmers in particular, and the Dominion as a whole, that this, first season since the war of comparatively low prices, the dairy fanners* reduction of income has Keen made less severe by a larger production per cow than has been experienced for many seasons.
