INDECENT ASSAULT CHARGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association Dunedin, April 29. The Rev. Edward Andrew* Axelsen, a widely known social worker of the Presbyterian Church, appeared in court this morning, charged with indecent assault, and was remanded till Friday. Bail was allowed, in one surety of £4OO, or tw’o of £2OO. A CARPING PROTEST. Auckland, April 29. The fact that a portion of the proceeds of the sale of poppies is to be sent to France in payment for the Bowers received has created considerable discussion. At a meeting of the Soldiers’ Mothers’ League a resolution was passed that the meeting is strongly opposed to the sale in New Zealand of flowers made in any country outside the British Empire in commemoration of dead sokiiers. It was emphasised that the full results of such an effort as was made on Poppy Day should be expended in New Zealand for the benefit of N Zealand men. ALLEGED TENANCY BONUS. Wellington, April 29. The first prosecution under the Act making it an offence to demand a bonus for letting a house was heard here, but fell through, as the defendant said he hod not asked for a £5 bonus, but for £5 rent paid in advance. The magistrate said there was room for a mistake, and dismissed the case, but had a conviction been obtained he would have inflicted a fine of £5O. SUPREME COURT SENTENCES. Wellington, April 29. In the Supreme Court to-day, Andrew Ernest Neilsen, aged 18, for carnal knowledge o£ a girl of 15, was ordered to be detained at Weraroa Farm for two years. George Webby, for incest at Onaki, was sentenced to seven years’ reformative detention. Ernest Bernard Holloway, for breaking, entering and theft at Wanganui, was given nine months’ imprisonment.
