INGLEWOOD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 1. After a residence of 34 years in New Zealand, 29 of which have been spent in the Tarata-Inglewood district, Mr. Isaac Crowe has determined on taking a trip to his native home in Forfarshire, Scotland, with which objective he leaves Inglewood to-morrow (Tuesday) by the mail train. He is due to sail in the Tainui from Wellington on the 9th instant, and to-travel via the Panama Canal to his destination. Since he has been, here Mr. Crowe has earned the goodwill-and respect of a large circle of friends. He has worked for his fellow settlers, as well as attending to his own affairs, having been chairman of directors of the Tarata Company for a few years, as well as filling the same responsible position on the Tarata School Committee until last, Monday week, when, at the householders’ meeting, he declined to stand for election, on account of his intended journey. His many friends hope that he will have a thoroughly enjoyable 1 holiday, as good as it is well earned, and look forward to welcoming him back. The following extract from the Nelson Mail concerning the Easter bowling tournament in Nelson should interest bowlers generally, and those of Inglewood particularly, where the successful • contestant, Bob Branch, was very well known: “An extraardinary game was the result of the meeting between Hockey and Branch in the district champion of champions matches played in connection with the Nelson bowling tournament; in fact, it must be almost unique. Both players drew well, and each resorted to the drive. As a result of the first ten drives ten heads were burnt, and ultimately 14 heads were burnt at a cost of 18 drives. As the game was composed of but. 16 heads, it can only be described as driving extraordinary. Branch, of the Motueka Club, was the winner of the game and the championship,” which final statement will be pleasing to his old Inglewood friends.
